It’s the little things! So far, over the past ten days we’ve been very
fortunate. We’ve only misplaced ourselves quite badly once, and only a couple
of minor misplacements. This, dear readers is not the same as getting lost. No,
we were always in Helga so we knew at all times exactly where we were. With
over a thousand miles and some wonderful scenery the only thing we slightly
missed was British TV. Mostly for news etc, so we resorted to DVD’s at the end
of the day when we were knackered from our touristy stuff.
Tonight, once again we find ourselves on the banks of the mighty Mosel
river., no more than twenty yards away. We arrived here because we just felt
like not having a plan today. We left the very beautiful Trier, to follow the
river, calling into as many small wine producers as we could. Which means
calling into a host of small villages and small towns, each different to the
last, but all with one thing in common. The hills climbing from the valley
floor and the Mosel are totally covered in a very large Duvet of vines. Mostly
the Riesling grape which dominates this part of the world.
So get the picture, we’re totally relaxed on a Stellplatz which is
costing €6.50 per night. It crossed my mind to go and try the local beer and
wine, until I decided to try the satellite TV. It burst into life with “The
Wine Show”, joy of joys. Well, at the top of this post I did say “it’s the
little things!”.
Just as an aside, we were food shopping the other day and I spotted some
nice looking “Cheval”. Into the basket it went and when asked by Margaret what
it was I said a nice bit of fillet. We had it last night, and when I asked how
it was, Margaret said it was nice but a bit tough tough for fillet. Then I told
her the truth, Margaret my dear, you’ve just eaten horse! The swelling seems to
be going down now, but my goolies still hurt!
We went for our first wine crawl last night, and the the wee place we
found was lovely, as were two of the three wines we tried. Gonna go back today
and buy some bottles of really nice Riesling at €5 a bottle. While we’re at it,
I’ll remind my wee darling where she came off her bike on the way home!
